Mahmood Textile Mill | 6.3 MW Grid Tied Solar Power Plant Case Study
The textile sector plays a vital role in the economic development of a country. It is a significant source of employment, contributing to job creation and poverty reduction. Textile companies, like Mahmood Textile Mill, generate substantial revenue, stimulating economic growth, and attracting investment. However, the textile industry is known for its environmental impact. The sector consumes vast amounts of energy, primarily sourced from non-renewable fossil fuels, leading to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
Recognizing these challenges, Mahmood Textile Mill realized the need to address their environmental footprint and transition towards sustainable practices. To combat the environmental impact of their operations, Mahmood Textile Mill took the initiative to convert to renewable energy sources. Understanding the importance of renewable energy in mitigating climate change and reducing environmental harm, they partnered with DSG Energy, a reputable company in the renewable energy sector. With the support and expertise of DSG Energy, Mahmood Textile Mill successfully integrated a 6.3MW solar system into their energy infrastructure.
DSG Energy has installed this mega project in Muzaffarghar. This project faced some challenges but DSG Energy efficiently overcame them. DSG implemented a creative solution by placing the solar panels diagonally in the true south direction, ensuring optimal solar exposure. This required careful design and structural planning to accommodate the diagonal layout. Additionally, DSG implemented measures such as brace rods and wires to control vibration and minimize hazards, ensuring the safety and stability of the installation.
Another challenge was the anchoring of the structures in the desert location. DSG employed special chemical methods for anchoring, ensuring the durability and stability of the structures under extreme weather conditions. Despite the labor challenges posed by the heat in the deserted location, DSG effectively managed the workforce, ensuring efficient progress throughout the project.
DSG successfully tackled the unique circumstances of the 3 MW ground-based site near the mill. The proximity to the Chenab River, prone to water overflow, required special preparations. DSG filled the land with mud up to 15 meters, providing a solid foundation for the solar installation and mitigating the risk of water damage. Furthermore, the project’s distinctive feature was the presence of overhead transmission lines. DSG carefully planned the layout and positioning of the solar panels to ensure safe clearance and maintain uninterrupted transmission line operations.
DSG also made strategic choices for equipment selection, opting for high-efficiency Jinko N-type panels and Huawei 330kTL inverters. These choices maximized the energy output and overall performance of the solar site. Additionally, an on-site transformer and bypass mechanism were installed, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the power generation and distribution system.
Overall, DSG’s meticulous planning, innovative solutions, and efficient management of resources allowed them to overcome the various challenges and ensuring the successful implementation of the solar power plant at Mahmood Textile Mill in Muzaffargarh.
The installation of the 6.3MW solar system not only reduces their carbon footprint but also enhances their market reputation and financial stability. By partnering with DSG Energy, Mahmood Textile Mills sets an example for other textile companies, showcasing how the adoption of renewable energy can create a positive impact on both the environment and the economy.
